Nanawale Estates is a community on the east side of the Big Island that enjoys plentiful sun amid lush forests. This region is bordered to the north by Hawaiian Beaches and to the west by Pahoa. Nanawale Forest Reserve hugs the southern edge of the estates.
Most of the homes here are built within a sprawling subdivision. Empty plots of land are ready to clear and built on, and houses throughout the subdivision are mostly one-story plantation-style homes with yards, porches, and tropical landscaping. A community center within Nanawale Estates provides a pool and large lawns for members to gather.
Nearby towns include Pahoa less than 4 miles drive away, with restaurants, grocery stores, gas stations, and entertainment. Hilo lies 20 miles north along Highway 130. Land within this region is forested with trees and low-growth vegetation. Nanawale Estate’s climate is tropical with an even amount of rainfall throughout the year, as well as plentiful sun. The 2018 lava flow impacted Leilani Estates directly south of Nanawale Estates, which remained untouched by the flows.
