Hana is an idyllic, isolated town on the far eastern end of Maui that is largely untouched by development and modernization. You can reach Hana by traveling on Hana Highway or by flying into Hana Airport. The northern route of Hana Highway winds along pristine coastline and through thick jungle before emerging into the quiet scenery of Hana town. It’s about a two-hour drive from Kahului to Hana.
The historic town is beloved by residents and sought after by visitors willing to drive hours to reach it, the type of place where you’ll miss the downtown shops if you blink. There’s Hasegawa General Store, Hana Ranch Store, a gas station, and a few charming local shops that comprise Hana’s commercial center and a few restaurants set along Hana Road.
Hana-Maui Resort and Waianapanapa State Park are draws for visitors. Hawaiian plantation-era homes and bungalows make up the small neighborhoods along Hana Highway and more secluded properties are set into the landscape further from town. Hana Bay Beach Park, Hana boat ramp, Twin Rocks, and Kaihalulu Beach are great places to spend quiet afternoons.
