Mountain View is set along the forested region between Kurtistown and Volcano along Highway 11. The rustic community is 15 miles south of Hilo, with nearby amenities such as groceries and gas stations available in both Kurtistown and Keaau. Average temperatures here range from the high 50’s to mid 70’s Fahrenheit, with generous precipitation year-round producing tropical vegetation and trees throughout the region.
A range of land parcels and homes are available along Mountain View’s paved or graveled roadways. Large untouched plots of land are ready to develop for those looking to build their dream island home in forested seclusion. One- and two-story bungalows are plentiful in the area, often set back from small paved and gravel roads with plenty of space. County water is available, though some homes use water catchment systems.
Mountain View has a post office and a few eateries along Highway 11, and the popular Makuu Farmers Market, a weekly gathering of local farmers, musicians, and artisans, is a 15-mile drive towards the coast.
