Named in honor of an 1860 visit by Prince Albert Kamehameha, Princeville was once a sugarcane plantation and then a cattle ranch before it became the masterplanned community that now thrives on Kauai’s North shore. Paniolo (cowboy) culture is still embraced here, and the Princeville Ranch has preserved over 2,000 acres of functioning cattle land along with its rich history. The ranch boasts the island’s most scenic horseback riding and offers lessons too.
Luxury living is artfully displayed within the neighborhoods of Princeville, where the median listing home price is $1.3 million. The Princeville Resort golf course features magnificent trees on rolling landscapes and dramatic coastline views. Included among local highlights are Hideaways beach, wonderful for snorkeling with the Honu (turtles), and Queen’s Bath, a tidal pool that during the calm summer months is a cherished hang out spot. The Princeville shopping center is the town’s main shopping hub. There you’ll find a grocery store, various boutiques and restaurants, as well as locally loved yoga and fitness studios. Less than half a mile from the center is the Hanalei Valley Lookout, which offers a panorama view of the valley and hillside, and just 3 miles north sits the charming town of Hanalei.
