The Koolaupoko neighborhood spans the eastern edge of Kawainui Canal in Kailua. The neighborhood starts near Kaiwainui Bike Trail at Kaha Park and continues to North Kalaheo Avenue near the ocean. This means many Koolaupoko homes are a short walk or bike ride to the famed waters of Kailua Bay.
While this neighborhood might not be right along the ocean, it is quite scenic, with homes on the northern edge facing the canal. Imagine relaxing on the lanai and watching your neighbors paddleboard past on their way to the beach.
Kainui Drive runs the length of the neighborhood. Property sizes vary, with lot sizes increasing as you get closer to the ocean. Homes were first built in the 1950’s and ‘60’s. Many houses are still the single-story originals from when the neighborhood was first developed. You will find homes with recent renovations and finishing touches that align with Kailua’s signature understated elegance. Think manicured back yards, in-ground pools, and open floor plans. Other properties are ready for cosmetic upgrades. Residents have views of the stunning Koolau Mountain Range and for a lucky bunch, the peaceful Kawainui Canal.
